In Short:  The laser emits a beam of light of through the skin.  This light is programmed to target melanin (the substance that gives the hair color).  When the light comes in contact melanin it creates an instantaneous heat that destroys the hair follicle.

 

The ideal candidate for laser has a vast amount of coarse, dark hair.  This is imperative as the hair must contain enough melanin to produce enough heat to effectively destroy the follicle.  However, If you have dark hair but it's fine in texture, electrolysis will be the more effective option for you.

 

Laser is ideal for large areas (i.e., bikini line, legs, etc.).  The face can be treated, but is cost-effective only if there is a substantial amount of coarse, dark hair.

After your final laser treatment (6 treatments), the laser will have destroyed all the hair it's going to destroy.  Any hair that remains after your final treatment can be permanently removed with electrolysis.

Please understand, laser can only reduce the number of unwanted hairs in any given area.  It will not destroy 100% of your unwanted hair.  Laser clients seeking 100% permanent hair removal will require electrolysis after their laser treatments to achieve that goal.
